Mesostructured silica thin films and particles prepared by surfactant‐templated sol–gel techniques are highly versatile substrates for the formation of functional materials. The ability to deliberately place molecules possessing desired activities in specific spatially separated regions of the nanostructure is an important feature of these materials.

Azobenzene‐derivatized mesostructured silica particles loaded with guest molecules and release of the molecules from the pores by the back‐and‐forth wagging motion of light‐activated azobenzenes. Inthispaper,wereportasimpleandeasysynthetictechniqueto produce monodisperse and hierarchical mesostructured silica particles with a uniform size by using C12-SH and CTAB as cosurfactants.Thedual-surfactant-templatetechniqueconducted underoptimalconditionsandselectingtheproperratioofthetwo surfactants enable independent control of structural parameters such as the particle diameter (less than 200 nm), shell thickness, porestructures, and morphologies. Silica nanoparticles exhibiting hexagonal, cubic, and vesicular mesostructures have been prepared using aerosol assisted, self-assembled process. This process begins with homogennous aerosol droplets containing silica source, water, ethanol, and surfactant, in which surfactant concentration is far below the critical micelle concentration (cmc). mesostructured silica particles, moreover in the reduction of the particle size keeping a proper good mesoorder, for further applications.
